Fred was diagnosed in 2014 and had extensive bone damage at the time. In 2016 he participated in a hike in the Grand Canyon with the MMRF as a way to celebrate being in full remission and to support the patient community. His wife Veronique participated (among many other events) in the Road to Victories ride in Vermont in 2019. She was so enthusiastic about cycling and the great ambiance during the ride that Fred decided to get on a bike as well in early 2020. Still quite the novice to the sport, Fred feels uncomfortably excited to participate in a multi-day ride, but is eager to meet the rest of the team in person and discover the beautiful roads of Maine.
