How did you get involved with the MMRF?
I’ve always been passionate about supporting critical medical research and helping those affected by cancer. When I learned about the incredible work the MMRF does to accelerate research and find a cure for multiple myeloma, I knew I wanted to be a part of this mission. Joining the MMRF team as a staff member managing fundraising events has been an incredibly rewarding experience.
What do you want people to know about multiple myeloma?
I want to share that multiple myeloma is a complex and challenging blood cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow, and navigating the road it takes you on can be challenging – but there is a lot of hope for patients. Thanks to the efforts of the MMRF and our Team For Cures community, we are making significant strides in research and treatment options. We’re pioneering clinical trials such as HORIZON and helping bring new options and information to the entire myeloma community. No matter what stage or connection, we are here for all patients and their care teams. Raising awareness, increasing access, and sharing resources and support while educating about this disease is crucial to finding a cure.
Why is participating in the MMRF Road to Victories ride important to you?
Joining R2V is important to me because it provides an opportunity to actively contribute to the fight against multiple myeloma and connect with patients, researchers, and the myeloma community. By riding and fundraising, I can help raise awareness and funds for the critical research needed to find a cure. It’s a way to honor those affected by this disease and to show my commitment to the MMRF’s mission.
What are you looking most forward to/excited about the ride?
I’m most excited about the sense of community and camaraderie that comes with the ride. Someone called Road to Victories a “support group on wheels” and I couldn’t agree more – this ride is the biggest support group, celebration, and community-builder in one. It’s inspiring to see so many people come together with a shared goal of making a difference. I’m also looking forward to the physical challenge and the beautiful scenery we’ll encounter along the way!
What does your training regimen for this event look like?
My training regimen includes a mix of cycling, strength training, and endurance workouts, as I’m currently training for our MM4MM Dolomites and New Hampshire treks, and the Chicago and Marine Corps Marathons this fall. Road to Victories will be my final endurance challenge of the year with Team For Cures; a perfect way to round out 2025! I regularly incorporate strength training exercises to improve my overall fitness and reduce the risk of injury since I’m completing a variety of events. Consistency and having fun along the way are key components of my training plan.
Describe any challenges you have needed to overcome to be able to participate in this event.
Believe it or not, learning to properly and safely ride a bike has been one of my biggest hurdles, as I’ve never actually owned my own bike until very recently! But I am ready to take on this physical and mental challenge. I’m learning to clip in/out and improve the safety and group ride techniques I learned on the ride last year. I’m also working to build endurance and confidence on the roads.
Who/what inspires you?
In 2025, I’m riding in honor of my friend and teammate Laura Fallon.
I’m inspired by the resilience and determination of all multiple myeloma patients and their families. Their strength in the face of adversity is truly remarkable and motivates me to work harder and do everything I can to support the MMRF’s mission.
Have you participated in previous MMRF events? If so, which/when?
Yes! I’ve joined Walk/Runs in major cities, completed the NYC Half Marathon, the Chicago Marathon x6, and tackled multiple MM4MM expeditions (Kilimanjaro x2, Bhutan, Greenland, and Guatemala), and Road to Victories. Challenging myself alongside our teammates at MMRF events is one of my favorite things.
Anything additional to add?
I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our supporters, donors, and participants. Your contributions and dedication are pushing us forward in the fight against multiple myeloma. Together, we are bringing hope to patients and their families and moving closer to a cure. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!
