Matt Murtha Team Janssen Oncology

How did you get involved in with the MMRF?

As part of my role at Janssen in patient experience, I partner closely with the MMRF to help get patients connected to the information and education they need to learn more about multiple myeloma and ultimately help lead them to the best possible outcomes on their journey.

What do you want people to know about multiple myeloma?

It is a personal goal of mine to help increase awareness of multiple myeloma and get people the facts they need to help them along their multiple myeloma journey. Getting connected to treatment early on is vital for patients. With all of the advances in care, you can thrive with multiple myeloma if you are connected to the right care teams/resources (like the MMRF!).

Why is participating in the MMRF Road to Victories ride important to you?

I’m passionate about participating in the MMRF Road to Victories for all the patients I have the pleasure to work with on a daily basis. They are my motivation and the reason I find so much personal fulfillment in what I do.

What are you looking most forward to/excited about in regard to the ride?

I’m most excited to get out there with the other riders and connect with more patients/advocates in the multiple myeloma space. I think there is no better power than power in numbers to help spread awareness of this disease!

What does your training regimen for this event look like?

I ride about 5 days a week and continue to strength train on those days to ensure my legs will be ready for the large climbs in WA!

Who/what inspires you?

The multiple myeloma patients and care partners dealing with this disease day in and day out. They are the fuel to our fire and keep us motivated to continue to fight for a cure.

Have you participated in previous MMRF events? If so, which/when?

I have participated in many MMRF events from patient summits to Walk/Run events and always enjoy the opportunity to get out there with my MMRF friends!

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is the largest nonprofit in the world solely focused on accelerating a cure for each and every multiple myeloma patient. We drive the development and delivery of next-generation therapies, leverage data to identify optimal and more personalized treatment approaches, and empower myeloma patients and the broader community with information and resources to extend their lives. Central to our mission is our commitment to advancing health equity so that all myeloma patients can benefit from the scientific and clinical advances we pursue. Since our inception, the MMRF has committed over $500 million for research, opened nearly 100 clinical trials, and helped bring 15+ FDA-approved therapies to market, which have tripled the life expectancy of myeloma patients.
